he has left such a mark on hawaii. hawaii is the home of the pacific man. there is no question in my mind that the pivot to asia-pacific is possible because of his vision, a vision shared by the president. a vision which is made possible by senator's strong commitments to entities and his placement of the pacific tsunami warning center in hawaii so the whole pacific benefitless. hawaii's military importance goes without saying. as the investments made to pearl harbor, the pacific missile range facility, paycom, scofield, the marine corps, just to name a few. all part of his plan on how to stabilize hawaii's economy and this nation and the world. senator recognizes a future for hawaii is getting off of our dependence on fossil fuels. a conversation by the way that we had at the last delegation meeting which he chaired and he made it very clear that this was his priority. he was, as you can expect, already ahead of everyone because he had been funding research and development in this area for years. he also knew that education was critical to our success and

the president is going off to hawaii shortly. it is not the time to go through complex policy issues because you will give them the short shrift. they should accept them. when the cr expires, that gives them the more hard deadlines when issues need to be addressed. these are strongly agreed to by partisan issues, raise the retirement age for medicare. take care of reducing subsidies and medicare by testing premiums, at a premium for part a. then there is further means testing that could be done in social security through a progressive indexing and things like that. those are the things that have been talked about around town. you could do a bill very quickly. does it need to be done in december? not if you extend all current policy. the important thing is that this makes a substantial down payment for long-term sustainability. to focus on 10 years, while important, it gets to those cash flow issues, it does not necessarily deliver the kinds of reforms that will be reducing our debt to gdp ratio and stabilizing it. i to not know w

navy was in hawaii in my headquarters receiving briefings on the future activities that our navys will do together, looking and talking through the issues of the rim of the pacific exercise of which you mentioned that will happen in 2014. we have a growing ability to have a tie log at the military level that's frank and open, and we do that through consulted talks we do on a periodic basis, and then we build a calendar of events on areas we think will have the most opportunity to have success working together. we build that calendar of events, and so far, we're having a very good record on meeting those objectives and actually completing them. right now i believe there's, in this time frame, i don't know exactly, but there's an exercise that we are doing in a bilateral way between the u.s. military and pay con and with the p.l.a. so, i just sent let the record show to my counterparts congratulating them on their promotions and hoping that we continue to have a good and open dialogue. because in the end, we have the responsibility, the p.l.a. and u.s. military have a responsibility to h
